WEEKLY BULLETIN

30 November 23

Welcome from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this message finds you well. I am thrilled to share some exciting updates and important information regarding our school's upcoming events and developments.

Careers Drop Down Day

Firstly, I would like to highlight the success of our recent Year 9 Careers Drop Down Day, which aimed at guiding our students towards considering their future paths and career aspirations. This initiative serves as an integral part of preparing them for the Year 9 Options process scheduled for the upcoming academic year.

E-ACT-VT Merger Update

In addition, I am pleased to announce that the merger with E-ACT is progressing to the next stage. As part of this transition, our dedicated Montpelier staff have been invited to a crucial in-person meeting with E-ACT's CEO, Tom Campbell, at Merchants Academy on 6 December. This meeting holds immense significance as it will provide our staff with the opportunity to gain insights into E-ACT's operational methods, receive comprehensive information about the transition timeline, and understand how this partnership will impact our beloved school.

It's imperative to note that this meeting also offers our staff the platform to address any questions, concerns or suggestions they might have about the transition. In light of the importance of this event and to facilitate our staff's attendance, we have decided to cancel Enrichment activities for most students on Wednesday 6 December. However, students participating in the Winter Concert rehearsal scheduled for 7 December are expected to attend as planned. Your understanding and support in ensuring our team's active participation during this crucial phase are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation as we navigate this exciting period of transition and growth for our school.

RELIGIOUS STUDIES TRIP TO SOUTHALL

The Humanities team had a hugely successful and enjoyable trip to Southall on Tuesday, visiting Sikh and Hindu temples and exploring the culture of West London; students behaved impeccably throughout and were a credit to the school.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

Thank you to everyone for their purchases at last week’s Scholastic Book Fair, where we sold £400 worth of half price books.

We were delighted to see so much enthusiasm for reading and learning within our school community. The rewards earned from the book fair will go towards improving our library and providing even more exciting reading materials for our students to enjoy. We are grateful for your continued support in creating a culture of literacy in our school and we look forward to seeing students at the next book fair in the Summer term.

YEAR 7 BOOKBUZZ IS HERE

Bookbuzz is a reading initiative from BookTrust that allows students to choose their own book from a list of 16 carefully selected titles which they get to keep. Bookbuzz is an excellent opportunity for students to discover reading for pleasure and develop a lifelong habit of reading. With a diverse selection of genres, including fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, and poetry, there is something for every reader to enjoy.

We are thrilled to announce that our Year 7 students next week will be receiving their chosen books as part of the Bookbuzz 2023. Our students have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of their books - we are happy to report that they will be distributed during tutor time next week. You can find out more about the selection of books below.

FAREWELLS TO STAFF, DECEMBER 2023

Farewell to Mrs Edwards

As the end of term approaches, we bid a fond farewell to our esteemed colleague, Rachael Edwards. Teacher of Computer Science who has been a part of our MHS community since September.

We appreciate the contributions made by this teacher during their time with us. As they embark on new endeavours, we extend our best wishes for their future. Change is inevitable, and we believe this transition will lead to fresh opportunities and experiences for both our departing colleague and the school community.

¡Un Adiós Afectuoso a Nuestro Querido Profesor de Español - Señor Miguel Trujillo-Martín!

We also have another farewell at this end of this term, it is with mixed emotions that we bid farewell to our esteemed Head of Spanish, Señor Martín. Since his arrival in 2011, he has been an integral part of our school's fabric, serving in various roles, including the admirable position of Head of House.

Señor Martín has not only imparted the intricacies of Spanish grammar and culture but has also instilled in us the values of perseverance, dedication, and compassion. His warmth and dedication have made him beloved among all of us.

Gracias, Señor Martín, for your tireless commitment to nurturing our passion for the Spanish language. Your guidance and encouragement have left an indelible mark on our lives. Su influencia siempre será recordada y apreciada.

While we bid farewell to a remarkable teacher, tutor, and leader, we also celebrate the countless lives he has touched and the legacy he leaves behind. Although you may be leaving our school, your teachings and inspiration will stay with us forever.

¡Hasta luego, querido profesor! You will be dearly missed, and we wish you the very best in your future endeavors.

A SPECIAL VISIT

On Wednesday last week the Young Carers group had a very special visitor, Roger the therapy dog. Roger joined us for an hour and he spent most of his time here being smothered with attention. Students really enjoyed the chance to get to know him and before the session was over were already asking when he can join us again. Having Roger and his owner Nikki here was a well deserved treat for our students, and we can’t wait to welcome them back.
