WEEKLY BULLETIN

21 June 2024

Welcome from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Community,

The end of the school year is rapidly approaching, but we still have some exciting events in store.

Firstly, we are looking forward to seeing everyone at the Summer Fair on 22 June, which has been wonderfully organised by Tamara and our dedicated PTA. This promises to be a fun-filled day for all, with plenty of activities and delights to enjoy.

Additionally, we have our much-anticipated Fashion Show fundraiser, "From Colston to Phoenix," taking place on 27 June. This event is not only a showcase of talent but also an important opportunity to support our school community.

We will conclude our series of events with the Summer Concert on 4 July, where our talented students will perform and celebrate their hard work and achievements. Tickets for the Summer Concert can be booked on Parentpay.

Please note that school will be closed on Monday, 24 June for our final INSET day. This is an essential time for staff training and development to ensure we continue providing the best education for our students.

We are excited for all these upcoming events and sincerely hope that the entire school community will join us in support and celebration.

Yours sincerely

Vanetta Spence

Reading Habits Survey - V6 Student Alys Needs Your Help!

I am a 6th Form student currently completing my EPQ on the influence that the Internet has had on reading habits.

I would really appreciate if you could take 5 minutes to complete this questionnaire, which will provide me with a greater range of perspectives to consider. Its totally anonymous and shouldn't be too difficult.

Please click here to access the survey.

Student Lockers to be Cleared by Friday 12 July

All students should make sure that all belongings are removed from lockers by Friday 12 July.

Lockers will be cleared over the summer break and unfortunately we won't be able to keep anything left behind.

Safeguarding Alert - Illegal Vapes

The availability of illegal vapes containing spice has come to our attention because there have been a few recorded incidents of children in Bristol using them. The children affected believe they are vaping CBD or cannabis but the impact of vaping spice instead has lead to hospitalisations in some cases. Here is some information produced by Lewisham providing more information: Information-on-Adulterated-Vapes-in-Schools_Lewisham.pdf (foresthill.lewisham.sch.uk)

Vapes sold in reputable shops (disposable or reusable) are made to stringent safety standards and are difficult to tamper with. We are aware of a market in illegal vapes which are not made to any safety standards and therefore carry a greater risk to health, as well as illegal sales of both legal and illegal/counterfeit vapes to children.

Bristol Public Health colleagues have provided the following to support you to take action.

How to Report a Concern

If you are aware of illegal cigarettes or vapes, or illegal sales to children, this can be reported anonymously here: Report IT - Trading Standards South West (tssw.org.uk). Children and young people can also be encouraged to use this link. Trading Standards work with local authorities, police, education, and wider partners to gather intelligence and take action against the illegal cigarette and vape trade.

If you have any concerns or questions, please contact your child's Head of Year.
