WEEKLY BULLETIN

24 May 2024

Welcome from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Community

As Term 5 draws to a close, we reflect on the incredible achievements and progress our students have made this term at MHS. It has been a term full of academic pursuits, extracurricular successes, and community spirit. Below are some highlights and important updates as we approach the end of the school year.

Academic Achievements

Our Year 11 and Year 13 students have shown remarkable dedication as they prepared for their GCSEs and A-levels. The recent mock exam results indicate a positive trend and we are confident that their hard work will pay off in the final stretch of examinations.

Community Engagement

We are proud of our students' involvement in various community projects. The AEAD bake sale raised money for the decorations at culture and identity day, demonstrating the compassion and generosity of our school community. The decorations really added the glamour to a wonderful event. We are looking forward to inviting you all to our MHS fashion show next term to share our work with the school community.

Important Dates

As we move into Term 6, please take note of the following important dates:

  • Monday 3 June, Start of Term 6
  • Monday 1 July – 5 Friday 5 July, Year 10 and Year 12 Work Experience Week
  • Friday 12 July, Sports Day
  • Friday 12 July, End of Term 6 and Summer Holiday begins

Looking Ahead

We are excited about the opportunities and challenges that Term 6 will bring. Our focus will be on supporting students through their final exams, continuing to provide enriching extracurricular activities, and fostering a safe and inclusive school environment.

We would like to extend our gratitude to all parents and guardians for your unwavering support throughout this term. Your involvement and encouragement play a crucial role in our students' success. We wish you and your families a restful and enjoyable half-term break.

Yours sincerely

Y10 AND Y12 WORK EXPERIENCE WEEK 1 - 5 JULY

As previously advised, all students are required to obtain a work experience placement for the week. We encourage students to find a placement relevant to their chosen career plans but any placement to experience the world of work is encouraged if students are struggling to find placements - for example in a shop, school, cafe or other local business.

If they have already arranged a placement, please ensure that this is logged on our careers website, Unifrog. Students have had training on how to add a placement which is a simple process of adding using the placement button on Unifrog.

Please see the link below for students to log their placements. All students log on with their school email and if they have forgotten their password can click the 'forgotten password' button to easily set a new one.

https://www.unifrog.org/student/know-how/direct/how-to-use-the-placements-tool

Once students have added their placements and provided employer contact details, Unifrog will send the given employer contact details of the paperwork we need completed from a safeguarding point of view to allow students to attend their chosen placement.

Students will only be allowed to attend placements once they have logged their placements on Unifrog and we have received the relevant paperwork from the employer and parent/carer permission to attend.

If students have secured a placement with a relative/family member we still require this process to take place as part of our safeguarding measures.

Please contact your child's tutor or sixth form mentor for any support needed around securing a work placement.

MONTPELIER HIGH SCHOOL FASHION SHOW

Montpelier high school have got together with Peg Squires, a Fashion Technician from UWE, to put together a monumental Fashion show!

The Fashion show will take you on a journey through time, depicting the history of the school, from its foundation in 1891, with its original name, ‘Colston’s girl’s school’, through the events of the 20th and 21st century, to the school’s eventual re naming.

By reaching back and confronting the past and its relationship to the present, only then can we face the future. Please come along to our no holds barred fun and creative way of looking at history.

To be held at Montpelier High School Theatre.
