WEEKLY BULLETIN

24 Nov 2023

Welcome from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this message finds you well. Firstly, I want to extend my gratitude to our remarkable Year 11 students for their incredible dedication and perseverance during the recent school mocks. Their hard work has not gone unnoticed and we commend them for their valiant efforts. We are now gearing up for the Year 13 Mocks; the timetable will be released shortly, providing ample time for preparation and focus.

Excitement is building for our upcoming Winter Concert and we are thrilled by the overwhelming response for ticket requests. We've been surprised by the speed of sales and are now allocating one ticket only per student family initially, but also running a waiting list for those who have not yet secured a ticket and those who would like a second ticket. Please email mhs-info@montpschool.org to let us know if you would like to join the waiting list. We will do our best to accommodate as many people as possible and will let you know if you have been un-successful in securing a ticket (or second ticket).

In our ongoing commitment to support our students in navigating complex global issues, we're pleased to announce that Solutions Not Sides, a charity dedicated to addressing Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the UK, will be at MHS next week. This initiative aims to foster understanding and tackle polarisation around these sensitive topics. More information about this commendable charity can be found at https://solutionsnotsides.co.uk/.

Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation as we strive to create a nurturing and inclusive environment for our students.

WE ARE SEEKING TWO NEW PARENT GOVERNORS

·Have you a child at Montpelier High School?

·Have you an open and enquiring mind?

·Do you show a willingness to listen and make informed judgements?

·Are you able to work well with others?

·Are you interested in education generally and our school in particular?

·Do you have a desire to play a part in improving our school?

·Are you willing to give time to attend meetings and training?

If the above means something to you, please apply for consideration for the role of Parent Governor by following this link.

A PERSONAL ACCOUNT

Being a Parent Governor at MHS over the last 5 years has been both varied and rewarding. Initially, I helped to check website updates on pages for parents, but fairly soon I became involved in meetings with subject leaders. Whilst my background is in mathematics education, my role is to bring a new set of eyes to plans: I definitely do not need to be an expert… I definitely do need to be happy to listen carefully, to read summaries, and to ask questions!

Saying that, my ‘maths-y eyes’ have naturally led to me to take an interest in data, but there are so many areas of school life, from uniform and Open Days to careers and Student Parliament, that the members of the board are able to contribute a wide range of skills (they are very friendly too!). The role is often described as ‘critical friend’… I would agree, but that does not tell you that the staff and students welcome you on visits, that sometimes you commit a chunk of time to doing something new, that you can be part of a journey… all those things are also why I enjoy being a Governor!
