Welcome from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Community

Getting Ready for the Warm Weather

As we transition into the warmer months, we want to assure you that we are fully prepared to ensure the safety and comfort of our students during extreme hot weather. Following the UK Government’s 'Beat the heat: staying safe in hot weather' guidance, we have taken several measures to mitigate any risks related to thermal discomfort.

Here's what we've implemented:

  • Regular monitoring of weather reports to stay informed about temperature increases.
  • Thermometers have been made available to monitor indoor temperatures effectively.
  • Staff members are encouraged to report any concerns regarding temperatures promptly.
  • We're utilising strategies such as keeping windows open in cooler times and blinds closed to create shade as needed.
  • Additional fans have been distributed throughout the school.
  • For lessons involving physical activities, such as PE, schedules may be adjusted or modified as necessary.
  • Students will have access to the hall during break and lunch so that they can remain indoors.
  • We will relax the uniform requirements to allow students to wear their PE kits during an Amber or Red alert.
  • Drinking water is readily available throughout the day to ensure students remain hydrated.
  • We may also switch to cold dinners only to prevent heat exhaustion in the catering team.

Your child's safety and well-being are our top priorities, and we remain committed to providing a comfortable learning environment as we navigate through the summer months.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely

STAFFING CHANGES IN THE SIXTH FORM TEAM

It is with great sadness that we will be saying goodbye to Sophie Blything, Head of Year 13 on 17 May as she has decided to pursue an alternative career outside teaching. Sophie has been a highly valued member of the sixth form leadership team as well as a fantastic teacher of Sociology/Psychology and we thank her for all her hard work supporting students over her time with us, both with her inspiring teaching and the wonderful pastoral support she has provided to Year 13.

To ensure Year 13 students are well supported during the examination period, our new pastoral mentor, Michael Goodman, will be providing pastoral support in addition to the sixth form mentors, and Caroline McClean as Head of Sixth Form will be overseeing all aspects of their academic progress/attainment. If you have any concerns regarding your Y13 child please contact their mentor in the first instance.

CULTURE & IDENTITY DAY

Students and staff came to school in so many wonderful outfits today representing their culture and identity. There were vibrant colours, team sports tops and flags being worn with genuine pride and joy. Miss Ibrahim produced an outstanding lunch for her kitchen take over and the atmosphere has been charged with good spirits. We finished off with a sensational red carpet fashion show in the gym.

SPORTING SUCCESS!

Congratulations to our Senior Climbing Team who won the Climbing Academy’s ‘South West Schools’ Senior Climbers Bouldering League’ - full credit to everyone who took part and thank you to the Team for representing our school so well.
